1, Steel grade

AISI M42/DIN 1.3247/JIS SKH59/GB W2Mo9Cr4VCo8 high speed die steel

Flat: thickness:0.6~ 250mm , width: 30~ 810mm contracted

3, Delivery condition

EAF, Hot rolled, Black surface, Prehardened Hardness 28 – 34HRC

4, Properties :

Die steel M42 alloyed with high molybdenum and 8 % cobalt, edge holding properties, high level hardenability, excellent hot hardness and wear resistance, high toughness and cutting ability, good grindability due to low V content, fine grain size and carbide particle size.

6. Applications (M42 high speed steel)

Tools subject to severe mechanical wear, tools for the machining of very hard materials such as titanium, nickel and cobalt based alloys, engraving and shaft type milling cutters, tool bits for free cutting steels, twist drills, taps, hobs, broaches, saws, reamers, knives, cutters, thread rolling dies, chasers, form and gear cutters, end mills, cold work tools, trimming dies, cutting tools and cold work punches, cold forming tools, tool bits for automatic lathes, cold extrusion rams, tools for high cutting speeds.

7, Heat Treatment

Annealing : 770 - 840 °C

Hardness after annealing : Max. 280 HB

Stress relieving : 600 - 650 °C

Hot forming : 1100 - 900 °C

Hardening : 1170 - 1210 °C

Quenching media : Oil, Salt bath, Vacuum ( 500 - 550 °C )

Tempering : 530 - 560 °C

Hardness after tempering : 67 - 69 HRC
