Light air-cured tobacco. As a result of air drying, the acquires an intense brown color. Dried burley leaf is characterized by a low sugar content and a relatively high level of nicotine.

The Burley variety is known for its distinctive flavor with a cigar-like aroma. The drying process can take up to two months, during which Burley loses most of its sugar. The average nicotine level in this variety varies between 1 and 4%. Along with the Virginia variety, Burley is part of the American Blend.
