Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general use around the world as a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, stucco, and non-specialty grout. It was developed from other types of hydraulic lime in England in the early 19th century by Joseph Aspdin, and usually originates from limestone
Chemical composition
Portland cement is made up of four main compounds: tricalcium silicate (3CaO · SiO2), dicalcium silicate (2CaO · SiO2), tricalcium aluminate (3CaO · Al2O3), and a tetra-calcium aluminoferrite (4CaO · Al2O3Fe2O3). Specialist Application: Cement base product where good early strength are required. Structures with durabilities requirements e.g. costal and marine structures; sewage works; water retaining structures; pure water applications. Soil stabalization, massive structures where heat of hydration is of concern. Concrete with aggregates that are reactive to alkalis
