Jasmine rice was selected from a hybrid strain of PATA/TN1/Khao Dawk Mali by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and was chosen as a purebred variety, subjected to testing and trial production in 1993. Its organic characteristics are distinctive of delicious rice, such as its slender grains, ivory white color, which upon cooking become sticky, and rice with a pleasant aroma. The grains are long, translucent, not dull, making the rice visually appealing and very much in line with consumer preferences. The cooked rice is very soft and sticky, possessing a unique fragrance due to the regulation of the fragrance control gene.
